2. Aberdeen City Trading Standards Service Warns Small Businesses about Internet Domain Name Fraud
Aberdeen City Trading Standards Service has warned local small business owners about an Internet domain name fraud. An unidentified individual has called several companies in Aberdeen claiming to be the representative of an Internet business protection organization. The caller told companies that somebody else in the Aberdeen area wanted to register a domain name identical to the name of the contacted company. The caller offered to prevent this by registering the domain name for the local business owner first for a fee. The quoted fees varied from GBP 50 to GBP 200. The caller declined to provide any written information, insisting that everything should be arranged by phone. The phone number from which the call initiated was not displayed.

Go Daddy Software Inc will enter the SSL certificate market with a low-priced offer. The company plans to repeat its success from the domain name market on the SSL certificate market.
Bob Parsons, CEO of Go Daddy, said that Starfield Technologies, a subsidiary of the company, bought an unused root certificate, trusted by 99% percent of the browsers from ValiCert Inc more than a year ago has been developing the system since then.

A consortium of mobile phone operators, manufactures and IT companies wants the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the organization in charge of the top-level domain name system, to consider a new top-level domain name for websites designed specifically for use on mobile phone screens. The consortium includes Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Nokia, Orange, Samsung, Sun Microsystems and Vodafone. The new domain name is expected to be .mob although it has not been confirmed by the consortium or ICANN.
